I think after 20 or 30 pages of discussion TreasuredJewel is not going to change her feelings about femininity and fitness.
She is not going to approve or think highly of women who have developed muscles from exercising.

Maybe not as really she is still just a kid (is she not?) and being a high school teacher, I have found teens to be more closed minded and opinionated than ever before, but that does not mean she will NOT eventually grow and change as she matures. And if you look at her profile, you may get some more clues as to how she thinks and why she says what she says. BUT... Let her get back to you in 10 years, and see where she stands.

Oh my gosh; I can't believe I just read this entire thread.
From the outside looking in ~ it reads like an episode of 'Mean Girls' for the most part.
Off to ride my bike.
LOL, so true.
Specially some people saying being fit is "what matters the most in the world". I guess they dont know how uncultured they sound. They are like those blond bombshells in movies that only know three or four words, all of them related to "fitness". I guess they cant hold a conversation if its not about fitness. If they ever stumble across a person that can talk about books, history, or mantain any cultured conversation, they would starte at them with their eyes blank and go away.
Seriously, people, if you think the most important quality in a person is "being fit"......... Im speechless.
Probably in your world "reading a book" doesnt mean anything. You probably ask "how can you ride that?". You people dont realize that you seem like Paris Hilton airheads that go to the gym all day and have nothing in your brain. Hey, if you probably watch a movie (some good movie that is, not that action airhead movies you probably watch) you would be left withouth understanding anything. I dont even mention reading a book cause you probably dont know what a book is. And no, i dont mean "100 ways to get fit" book, i mean literature. Yeah, i know, you probably have to goolge it.
And before you assume (cause thats what all your basic brain can do) im not fat, im slim and i ve been skinny all my life. I gain a bit of weight a year ago and i got it off by running this last 5 months, 4 times a week. I weight 130 and im 5´9. I also do not like to judge people for what they look on the outside. I also love reading, i am a literature major, can hold a conversation about most topics, and read, average, 10 literature books a month. In my spare time, when you guys are probably training in the gym with your little airheads.
There is more in life than fitness. MUCH more. I feel sorry for superficial and ignorant people. If you only knew that words means freedom, freedom of thought, the ability to think for yourself, the ability of not being a repeating machine that can only reproduce what the media tells them. Be fit. Train. Ok. You do.

Airheads.
Yet you judge people based on a few comments online about one topic. That topic is fitness. Many, who feel fitness is important do not consider it to be the most important qualification of a person.
You sound young. 10 books a month, are you READING? Or skimming? Some of those books may have ideas worth rereading. Sorry if I sound harsh, but your judgement seems to be based on a superficial reading of the posts to me.

Airheads.
I have a master's degree in French literature from UCLA, and like you, I read constantly, although I have shifted mostly to nonfiction - history, science, or whatever strikes my fancy when I browse through the new book section at several local libraries. I love ideas, and I love to debate. I also love classical music. I volunteer twice a week at a local middle school where I run the chess club during lunchtime. When I discovered yoga at age 62 my natural intellectual curiosity led me to read up on the historical and religious underpinnings of that discipline and I learned a lot about Hinduism and Buddhism.
I am 67 and diabetic, although not yet insulin-dependent. Hopefully I will never be insulin-dependent, and that's where the importance of exercise comes in for me personally. If exercise is not "what matters most in the world" to me, it sure is close, by necessity. I do cardio, weights, and I work on balance and flexibility, all of which is of increasing importance as we grow older whether we are diabetic or not.
People can be very, very serious about their exercise without being "airheads". In every human endeavor, in every hobby, in every academic field, in every job, there are fanatics and obsessives. There are people who believe what they are doing is the be-all and end-all of existence. But everywhere you go you will also encounter Renaissance men (and women). Can you honestly claim to know the percentage of regular gym goers who are airheads? Who are intellectuals? Who are professional people where intellect is important to their job performance? Well, I certainly do not know because I do not engage in very many conversations at the gym and when I do they do not usually become personal. But I would hazard to guess that there are enough people in all those categories to go around, plus people in other categories that I didn't specify.
There is so much anger, so much superiority, so much desire to put other people down in your post. I thought it was important for someone who shares your values of the importance of culture, and of literature specifically, to rebut it. Yes, I also look down on airheads, but I don't feel compelled to do a long rant about them. What has brought you to this point?
