September 28, 2011 - (BRONX, NY) - People taking oral steroids are twice as likely as the general population to have severe vitamin D deficiency, according to a study of more than 31,000 children and adults by scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. Their findings, in the September 28 online edition of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, suggest that physicians should more diligently monitor vitamin D levels in patients being treated with oral steroids.

That's interesting, I take an oral steroid for asthma and on my last physical my blood work came back with low vitamin D levels.
I take supplements now to help with it, but this is very interesting information thanks for posting.

EVERYONE is low in vitamin D nowadays because of our lifestyles and diet. I work night shift at a hopsital and mine were low a few years ago. I couldn't sleep, got muscle spasms all the time and just felt like crap. Started supplementing and have felt 1000 times better. Catabolic steroids i.e. gluccocorticoids etc. are very hard on your body.
