Before I started losing weight my heels would hurt so much ( I believe it was plantar fasctitis) upon waking, after sitting ect. I thought I would never be able to jog or run without immense pain. Now the pain is gone! I have been needing to change my routine so I decided to jog/walk intervals on the treadmill. I did that for an hour tonight. No pain in the heels at least.

Another sign of progress is that I have now decided that I need to buy my first grown up sports bra! My cup and band size is smaller now so maybe I will not have a hard time finding one that fits.

Nice!! Do not skimp on good running shoes. Go to a store that specializes in in running/tri shoes and gear; avoid the box stores. A properly fitted shoe can make a big difference in minimizing pain and preventing injury! When you go, bring your current shoes.

NICE! One thing that can hurt heels is running with a heel strike instead of mid foot or toe. Do an experiment where you run in your running shoes and observe how your foot lands. If it lands first on your heel, then try running across a carpet in your bare feet. You can't! Take a look at Vibram 5 fingers.

In any event. That's awesome. Good for you.

If you've had PF I suggest doing some foot exercises to keep your feet strong. Stand barefoot on a smooth floor (e.g. wood or tile) and pull yourself forward by curling your toes (i.e. inchworm style). Try to work your way up to 50 or so curls, 2-3 reps, several times per week. Another way to strengthen feet is to run barefoot on the treadmill, if possible (health club will probably not allow it). But if you do this, be sure to work up in distance very slowly, to avoid injury.

I have plantar fasciitis, and when it flares up, I wear elastic stirrup-looking arch supports through the day and while asleep, which helps. I also find that running on the treadmill has been easier on me than I thought it would be.

You should probably see a podiatrist. He/She might be able to help. Being in pain can be a real deterrent to doing exercise.

Make sure you stretch your calves religiously, especially in the mornings as soon as you wake up.
