Whats the ratio of individuals participating in yoga and injury?
10000:1?
I think more than that. Heck, they had to really search and search to find someone who was injured. And she was injured 12 years ago!!! She looks overweight so she was probably even HEAVIER back then. Imagine 250-275 pounds on your neck. That is probably why she got hurt.
In all my years of doing yoga and knowing a LOT of yoga practitioners, I have NEVER heard of anyone (until this lady in this article 12 years ago) who EVER got injured doing yoga. Plus, no one knows for sure if yoga really helped contribute to her injury.
You're taking Brietbart.tv as an authoritative source?
You can get hurt doing any sport. News is always trying to stir up controversy by picking out a few isolated cases and extrapolating that to everyone.
The thing about yoga is that everyone assumes it's easy and it's just stretching when it's really quite challenging. Because of this assumption, a lot of people new to it tend to push themselves past their limit and can injure themselves. But again, you can strain a muscle pushing past your limit in just about any activity.
I can injure myself in my sleep. But yoga? Not in the 12 years I've been practicing.
Now ... I pinched a nerve in my shoulder a few months ago, and it's still not back to 100 percent. There are some poses I'm avoiding and/or modifying, with the permission of my physical therapist, until the shoulder is stronger.
I agree about the part of finding a good teacher. And if I were a beginner I'd avoid those crowded classes, no matter how good the teacher is.

In my opinion, Yoga does a superb job in preventing you from injuring yourself in real life situations. Based on my own observations, you are much more likely to get injured if not doing yoga than the other way around.
Doesn't all this yoga danger stuff pretty much look exactly like what you did as a kid while watching saturday cartoons? LOL....A little more graceful...but contortionist activation all the same.
