Do you remember what the machine was called? I know exactly what you're talking about. I used it in the gym at a hotel in Buenos Aires and for the life of me I can't remember what it's called or who makes it. I LOVED it. I'm short, and it was much more comfortable for me than using the elliptical (I normally walk on an inclined treadmill at home). I'd love to find one to buy here!

I'm going to do a search on the "AMT" that was mentioned in another post in the thread. If I find out anything I'll come back and post here.

I don't like any machine that keeps me flat-footed. I think nature intended that the foot be able to flex. I've heard of people having their feet go numb on the elliptical, which to me is a very bad sign. Generally speaking it seems to me that stiff=weak, brittle. I'm not really a barefoot devotee, but I run about 5-10 miles barefoot each week. I had a stress fracture in my left foot about 2 years ago. Every now and then I feel a little twinge of pain there, and it's always when I'm running in shoes, never when running barefoot. Granted, when I do run barefoot, it's always at a relatively slow pace.

Sounds like you're talking about an Arc Trainer.

Yeah that sounds just like an ARC trainer. They can be pretty brutal if you set the resistance high and keep a steady pace. I use an elliptical during my workout, but I do more of a combination workout designed to keep my heart rate high -while- I'm doing seated machine weight stuff. Basically I do 30 seconds of elliptical on setting #4, as fast as I can. Then I do 15 reps of one machine in the circuit. Then I do 30 seconds on the elliptical. Then 15 reps on the next machine in the circuit. The reps are at a weight that causes difficulty after the 12th rep. So for the ab crunch, that'd be 60 pounds for me. For the seated leg press, it'd be 150 pounds. And so on. My workout takes around 1/2 hour and I'm soaking wet when it's over.
