The not racking the weights is my pet peeve above all others. But I think I have recently encountered one above that; when a person racks the weights, puts them in no order, so everything is mixed. As if it is so difficult to put the tens in one place, the 45's in one place, etc.

Nothing like going to pick up a pair of 60's and finding a 25 and a 90.
All of the New Year's Resolutions to "get in shape this year." The gym will be overcrowded from about Jan 1st, until the middle of Feb, when all the new people drop off. It drives me up the wall.
Some new people will drop off... some others won't. In the end, more people are trying to get in shape. How is people wanting to get into shape annoying? I am sorry you can't have a monopoly on fitness.
The problem is the gym becomes insanely crowded by people who are ignorant to gym etiquette. It's not about trying to exclude anyone. The issue isn't new people joining. I joined my gym about 5 years ago, but I joined in the summer. When new years comes it's going to be very, very, very crowded.
It's annoying. Getting in a decent workout takes longer because getting a bench or a machine or a piece of cardio equipment suddenly has a queue. Why are you such a dick?
Now it's all about you? What happens when Taco Bell or Jack Box suddenly has a line?
The problem is, "insanely crowded by people who are ignorant of gym etiquette"
What causes this? New people.
Were you new at one point? Were you ignorant of gym etiquette at one point?
Whether it is the new year of the summer, some new people may lack gym etiquette. You were probably one of them. Maybe it's not 'gym etiquette' that bothers you, but your own personal pet peeves.
I welcome floods of new people. The more new people that come in, the less fat America gets. It's people like you and Phil that have an unfair angst or hostility towards these new people that may make them fearful of coming to the gym.
By this reasoning, I am a dick?

I would have to say without a doubt that perfume and cologne are my BIGGEST peeves. What are people thinking when they put it on and go to the gym? This just isn't the place. It is so hard to breath when someone next to you is reeking of perfume.
One person a while back had patchouli on. The whole gym stank.
I go into certain gyms, and some of the guys practically BATHE in that 'Body Spray' crap. It will smell up a whole huge weight room. But I'm told it's even worse in the locker rooms where they do the spraying. I've seen guys head into the locker room and turn around at the door. "Gotta wait a few minutes, 'til the air clears."
Something about that stuff, apparently, makes it penetrate your nasal tissues. Half an hour after 'exposure' to it, and you're still smelling it. Plenty of people have allergies to fragrances. And artificial fragrances can mimic our hormones... actually altering our hormonal balance.
Fine, if you want to do it to yourself. Not so fine, when other people's rights are involved.
And why do I always get the locker next to the gal spraying half a can of fungicide into her shoes? Hairspray and spray deodorant are bad enough. But fungus spray exceeds my tolerance limit. Wait'll you get home, hon, OK?
Oh, and now the low-end gyms (the badly-run ones, anyway) have machines spritzing 'deodorizer' at intervals. Artificial fragrances and no-telling-what-else. All I know is I don't want to breathe it.
I don't hate traffic on the highways because I feel I have a monopoly on going places and hate the other drivers. I just hate traffic. I don't hate crowded gyms because I feel I have a monopoly on it and hate the other people working out. I just hate crowded gyms.
Claiming someone wants a monopoly on something simply because they dislike how suddenly right on time, there is a huge influx of people joining the gym, trying to make them feel bad for disliking the crowds, trying to paint them as hostile, makes you a dick, you dick.
This response is basically just a bunch of random words strung together masquerading as a complete thought. It reminds me of the 2007 Miss Teen USA contestant from South Carolina.
I see some dedicated over weight people who are really trying to get back into shape. and . Than I see a worker or other gym membership holder making fun of the them
that is so not cool . that person or persons are working their but off trying to get fit an healthy they did not pay for people to laugh at them or say sap about them in ears way.
Here's a followup on that older man at the gym who was giving me unsolicited advice in a ham-handed way when I was on the abdominal machine. I wondered if he might be flirting. Well, guess what -- he was.
I saw him again a few days ago. He called out my name and struck up another conversation, this time about the Giants t-shirt I was wearing. He asked me if I were going to spring training in Arizona, and I replied, I don't think so. Then he said, "If you do decide to go, I'll go with you."
I smiled and said, Sounds great, but I'll have to ask my husband.
Something tells me this guy isn't going to be flirting with me any more.

I like seeing the large people at the gym. They are trying! They are not at home, on the couch. They are at the gym! People that would make fun of them when they are trying to improve themselves are just immature twits. Unfortunately the large people usually do not last that long. Maybe its just too hard, or maybe they are tired of people laughing at them. They should be encouraged not discouraged.
