Hi,
I was wondering if anyone is running in a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.
I run in an 8K every year in Charlotte NC. It's a great way to burn off some of those calories

I usually run a 5K Turkey Trot in Western Pennsylvania. I have rotated between 3 different races. This will be the 19th year in a row. This one should be better weather than most.

I would love to run a turkey trot but I'm running the Seattle Marathon on Sunday. Rain likely. I'll just have to run vicariously thru you on Thanksgiving. And Sarah Palin; she almost always seems to run a race on thanksgiving.

Just to put this in perspective: the average turkey meal for an adult is 3,500 calories (this includes dessert). Runnning 8 kilometers wouldn't even burn off a large helping of mashed potatoes. In order to burn off 3,500 calories, a person would have to run a full marathon PLUS a 10K on top of it.

Not to sound like a party pooper...

Turkey Trots are awesome and a great way to, as you say, build up a great appetite for your coming Thanksgiving Day Feast. I ran our annual 5K Trot here in Boise yesterday morning. I wish it were an 8K like yours, but the 5K is OK and is geared more as a "fun" event (with costumes & kids and such) than a real competitive sort of race.

I guess you are not a runner. Runners don't just run on Thanksgiving morning. Some are out running 365 days a year and almost always longer distances than a 5K.

I think she is a runner; she has posted that she has run quite a few marathons. I think she's trying to point out that running a 5K, 8K, etc on compensate for a food orgy is not going to work.
