Because it's anaerobic exercise.
Because to have any meaningful weight lifting strength, you have to pack a ton of calories into your body. You eat more, you get bulkier, but fat takes over too.

And please, do not look at those seen on TV and screen, as good guides. You know well, how THEY got there.

^^^^^i agree. I went to college for 4 years studying fitness and worked in a gym we always gave overweight people a mixture of cv and resistance training. Resistance training burns fat however you may not lose weight but you will burn fat and gain muscle.

It depends on the type of weight training.....also there is nothing more effective than burning fat than a efficient weight training program combined with a high intensity aerobic program. Much more effective than either on its own.

I think the misconception ensues because weight lifting is not aerobic, and conventional wisdom says aerobic exercise burns the most fat. That doesn't mean that weight lifting cannot be used to reduce body fat. But you have to be smart about your routine.

Weight lifting and losing weight are two different phenomenas. When you do weight lifting, the fats in your body breaks down and build up muscles whereas to lose weight you have to burn the deposited fats. So you have to do some other exercise like running, brisk walking or cycling to burn the calories faster.
