Just joined a "real" gym and had my 2nd personal training session today. Signed up for 3 more.
Did hip thrusts, squats with barbell, deadlifts, and leg press. Felt like a fool trying to get those plates off the barbell, then couldn't even lift the 95 lb thing. I got too ambitious.
Yesterday was my first weight room workout in a week. Last week I noticed an acute pain in my shoulder while bench pressing. I've noticed it before but this time it was pretty bad. I'm not sure how I managed to do this. Maybe a rep got away from me a while back, or some other exercise is affecting me adversely and I'm feeling it on my bench, but either way I've backed off until I can get this diagnosed. I've done some trail running and core work in the mean time. I also got sick Sunday/Monday and didn't workout those days or Tuesday.
Yesterday I replaced bench press with DB press and worked considerably lighter. I've been at 225-235 for reps on the bench, but I got only as high as 80s with the DBs and that reactivated whatever is wrong with my shoulder. I was pretty timid in the weight room yesterday, keeping weight numbers lower than usual and discontinuing an exercise at the slightest discomfort in my shoulder.
Until I get this thing diagnosed I'll be staying away from chest workouts and shoulders. I made an appointment with my doctor but military medicine is a slow and cumbersome process. My first appointment is next Friday and that just starts the diagnosis process which will take a couple weeks until they eventually refer me for an MRI.
I suppose this means I'm not going to hit that 1RM goal of 315 I'd set for myself for this year. But I'd rather abandon that goal and not have a lingering shoulder problem than push it and screw myself in the long run. So it's a minor setback and I'm sure I'll be fine.
I have been some of my injuries a bit of rest tendinitis knee and back............go for a walk as opposed to cardio or maybe do rowing machine instead.
I did a 6 mile trail run, pullup/pushup pyramid and kettle bell swings. Then I did a lot of foam rolling and stretching. My shoulder feels pretty good so I'm hopeful it's nothing serious.
Today was 10 mile run. Stretches and foam roller to follow.
