In the past I have done the Perfect Pushup exercises as well as Insanity. Perfect Pushup is every other day for three weeks (which I would then repeat), Insanity is six days a week for nine weeks. I was thinking combining the two of them, doing Perfect Pushup in the mornings and Insanity in the Evenings, which would mean about three times a week I would be doing both the same day. Just wanted to see thoughts on this if it would be overkill or not?

If you have the energy to do it--then do it. It's definitely not overkill.

The question is why would you want to do perfect pushups and insanity? What are your goals. What are you working towards? Strength, stamina, size, looking ripped?

Working out twice a day can have negative effects depending on your goals.

A combination of gaining strength and getting a bit more ripped and cut.

With my current schedule with work and other commitments I don't have the time to go to the gym more than a couple times of week, so I need to work out at home. I don't have a bunch of gym equipment either.

I'm not sure why I thought of combining the two, the thought just popped into my head so I figured I might give it a shot. I just wanted to get some thoughts on it, to see if it could be negative or overkill especially as I get deeper into each program.

Another thing I was thinking if I were to combine them is to do Insanity 3-4 times a week instead of the 6 days, and basically do Insanity on my Perfect Push up off days.

Have you done insanity yet? If not, I would try it for the first couple of weeks before you incorporate your own thing into your workouts. The big problem with training twice a day as you said is over training. You may feel like you have a lot of energy but your body is still repairing itself and it will limit your workouts. But if you feel it is working for you then i say go for it

I agree w/ skel1977; just remember that the body is strengthened after the workout, not during the workout. After is when repair and recovery of muscles takes place. It takes 24-72 hours. If you target a certain set of muscles and then try to work them again that evening, or even next day, you won't get the full benefit. You will just be overtraining. Whatever you do, make sure you give the body time to recover.

I have done Insanity before. I wouldn't do two intense exercises in one day. The Perfect Pushup is generally a bit quicker and a little less intense (for the most part anyway). I wanted to start that again (which I haven't really done in years), but since its a less intense workout was trying to come up with something else to mix it with. I just don't want to over do it, especially since Insanity does get very pushup heavy itself as you get further into the program.
