Hey everybody.....I am kind of out of shape ....not overweight or anything but i haven't done any cardio kind of work-out for a long time.....I have a bad knee...

Well i was wondering if anyone has a training regiment that has worked to get you feeling good and like you aren't going to fall over after climbing 3 flights of stairs?

If any one has been in boxing or any other kind of sport i would like to know also what your work-out would consist of......other than that i will take any advice from any kind of work-out

Thanx everybody for reading and for any advice

I don't beleive one size fits all approach. Do you ever read some of the workout magazines like Mens Fitness or Mens Health. Need something more hardcore then there is Muscle and Fitmess or Ironman magazines.

For the ladies i like Shape and Muscle and Fitness Hers.....

For me personally i follow the ''Body for Life'' by Bill Phillips and also of Muscle Media magazine (founded by him) that works best for me after 22 years of Bodybuilding/Weight Lifting with lots of trial and error in my regimines over these years....

Considering that bad knee and the fact you haven't worked out in a long time; I would start out swimming/water aerobics. Something easy! Exercise doesn't have to be bone breaking miserable to be effective.

I encourage you to take a long term perspective and get your program started with the INTENTION to do this for the rest of your life. Working out for a month or two will provide no long term benefit. If you do loose any weight, you'll probably gain it back as soon as you quit working out.

Whatever you decide upon, just take it e-a-s-y when you are starting out. No need to push hard, no need to strain. MAKE IT FUN! If you fail to do that, I can almost guarantee that you won't stay with it very long. With out consistency, and long term involvement, you are basically wasting your time.

I've been working out regualrly for over 30 years. During that time I've seen hundreds of people come and go. They start out all gung ho and they overdo their early workouts, making themselves so miserable in the process, that their mind rebels and they quit.

So find a way to enjoy your workout and make it fun...whatever you do.

blessings...Franco

Whatever you do, do an activity that you enjoy. If you force yourself to run on a treadmill for X minutes/day and you hate it, you won't stick with it. Swimming and biking and good for bad knees. I train in kickboxing/boxing and grappling. Here is a typical workout for me on a day that I'm doing stand up technique. Usually I train for about 1.5-2 hours 2-3x per week. I also walk or run on off days to help stay in shape.

-Light stretching
-Warm up (15-20 minutes): Jump rope, sit ups, push ups, free body squats, lunges, squat thrusts... Sometimes the warm up is really intense, other times at a moderate rate.
-Drill technique (30-45 minutes): Shadow boxing, hitting and kicking heavy bag, partner drills with focus mitts for stand up...
-Spar (30-45 minutes): Go 3 minute rounds with 1 minute rest. The first rounds are usually at a lighter pace, often times focusing on particular techniques. The last several rounds are at a pretty intense pace, a little short of competition level. Basically, when you get hit, it hurts but you aren't going to get knocked out.

Boxing is a great workout and a lot of fun. It toughens you mentally and gets you in shape. Due to your knee issues, it may be a better option than kickboxing. Grappling is an intense workout that may also be good. It develops your cardio, makes you stronger and increases your flexibility, all while increasing your mental toughness. And it is a heck of a lot of fun. How many activities can claim all of that? I recommend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu if you have any gyms in your area and you have an interest in trying it.

Since you are having problems with a" bad knee"; I would consult an orthropedic specialist; before starting a fitness training program. I guess it will depend on what type of knee prob you have. I certainly wouldn't think about boxing training since boxing require a lot of the movement will involve proper knee position.
I wish you the best
