Hey guys, I'm tabi, I live in Loveland Colorado , im about to turn 18 may 25 and I want to change my lifestyle. I'm 5'9 and i weigh 163. I'm not in shape, and I'd like to be. I'd like to get down to 150, or 145 depending on how it goes.
I changed my diet last month and lost 5 pounds, i was 168. I was having trouble keeping up because I had no support. Everyone was telling me I wasn't chubby so they wouldn't hurt my feelings, and the lack of empathy was hurtful. I get called chubby at least once a week and I hate my body. I am depressed and self conscious. I'd like to be able to wear shorts, or anything but pants. I joined the forum for support and advice. So far, I like to jog and dance for exercise.. Anything else?
Do what I did about 35 years ago. Start by jogging around the block, or less than 1/2 mile. Then a couple days or so later run twice around the block. Keep gradually increasing your distance and before you know it you'll be running 10 miles.
Run at a slow easy pace. Run-walk-run if necessary. It is much preferable to run on grass/dirt or treadmill. A steady diet of running on pavement is tough on the knees, feet & joints.
It's really simple, inexpensive, and very effective.
I'd continue the dancing and jogging, and add strength training. I prefer using my own body-weight for that - situps, pushups, squats, lunges, planks, etc. and sometimes adding low-weight dumbbells to supplement my own body's weight in the workout. Such as - curling 8 pounds in each hand while I'm doing squats. Or russian twists, while holding a 25-pound barbell plate. Or doing bird-dogs with a 10-pound dumbbell tucked behind the knee while holding a 3-pound dumbbell in the active hand (and switching when it's time to switch). Or wall sits while pressing 5-pound dumbbells. None of that should be confused with weight-lifting. It isn't. It's primarily core work but also giving your arms a modest challenge -while- you're in the middle of a core exercise.
Maybe to change things up on the weekends go on a hike. Start with some easy ones and gradually do some with a nice incline. You have a lot of great hiking places at your disposal.
Cut out all processed foods and run for an hour 6 days a week. A friend of mine is doing that and has lost over 50 pounds so far in about 8 months. She has probably lost around 70. No alcohol. No soda.
Google couch to 5k. Its a good start for couch potatoes and defnitley get off the crap food.
