I just feel so much weaker than other guys. Although I have been weightlifting, it has been a real uphill battle for me compared to other males. Even now after a year of training, it just feels like other males can come in there without any training and be stronger than I am in a short period of time. When I worked construction, I was constantly taunted for being weak. I had trouble drilling because it would exhaust me so quickly.

I am 5'8" and around 180 lbs with about 15% body fat.

Lifting stats:

Bench Press: 210 lbs
Deadlift: 350 lbs
Squat: 290 lbs
Overhead press: 150 lbs

What is wrong with me?

Well, that is not very reassuring. I am not particularly intelligent. I want to at least be strong, but it just seems I am naturally weak. And I don't understand why.

26--okay.
A 290 squat--and 350 DL isn't bad by any means.
Your bench could go up a little._--but all good things in good time.
How long have you been lifting?

I started March 2010. I lifted about eight months, then I took a break for a few months. I came back for a couple months before taking an eight month break. Finally, I returned in November, although I have been inconsistent and dieting for the last month and a half. I actually managed to not lose any strength during the extended break and have gained strength while on the diet, so I am a little happy about that. Even so, I feel really bad about my lifts all together. And I just feel so weak compared to other males. There are new people at the gym that I see lifting what I struggled to do many months into it.

You work with a$$holes. That's what's wrong. Change the people you work with and you'll be fine. The stats you gave indicate you're in prime condition. Try having once been a weightlifter and a surfer and having to quit surfing because of a heart arrythmia. Than add a few years and some pounds added from being on blood pressure medicine until you are winded going up a set of stairs, and then we can talk about weakness. Enjoy what have. Don't bite your nails coveting what other people have or you may have what little you have taken away.

subtle 'i want compliments on how my lifts are actually pretty good' thread.

edit: your squat and deadlift could use some work - not that great for your bodyweight.

edit 2: okay, you're right. all those lifts are pretty bad for your weight. just keep workin on it buddy!
