Meh. I have a desk job but I'd probably work in retail if it paid more. I hate being tethered to my chair.

On an autocorrecting iDevice.

Yeah, the leg of my ancient desk chair broke once and it could have been deadly ...

Another option is to get one of those ball chairs that forces you to use your core in order to keep your balance. This way you can have your desk job and still not be lazy.

Like others said, I also aim to get up at least once an hour, I make sure I take a walk on my lunch break, and will sometimes get off a train stop early to get in extra steps.

They also provide onsite facilities for employees to shower. I'm truly appreciative.
I had adjustable desks at a previous job. It was sweet. I hate sitting all day.

I think having a sedentary desk job is enough to give me motivation at the very minimum to eat right and to be active when away form my desk/work. I hate when we have employee birthday parties and luncheons because it is usually just greasy, fatty foods like pizza and cake. I usually turn down a piece of cake when offered, and this one particular women gives me that look like I am some creepy pedophile. She's the person who brings a big gulp of soda with her every morning, refills it come lunch, and takes smoke breaks every 10 minutes.

I read somewhere that sitting is the new smoking, and THAT is scary.

Since then, I do my best to get up at least once an hour, even if it's to walk over and ask a coworker a question that I could have easily emailed, we even have instant messenger at work, but I still go to their desks. I will go walk to the breakroom to get water, then later the bathroom, then later more water. When I make my lunch, etc. I also do not use the elevators at work unless I absolutely have to (like having a cart of items to move to another lab), I walk up and down at least 6 flights of stairs a day (well five days a week). I am proud to say that after being there for 6 months the stairs no longer kill me, though after a few flights I do start to feel it.

I would LOVE to have those standing desks with the treadmills attached, or an exercise ball, but sadly my desk area is too small and it would get in people's way!

Those balls are not allowed at my job due to liability issues.
