I find that one of the biggest obstacles to running outdoors is finding a way to carry keys/ cell phone/ etc. I think that parks should have lockers (just like gyms). It's not smart to leave anything valuable in your car if you go to the park. Those are very popular places for thieves to break in because they observe people leaving their cars, and they know that many leave valuables inside.

I suppose if you are just running around your neighborhood you might just take a house-key. That shouldn't be too much of a hassle. I have one key that is permanently tied to a wrist-size string.

How do you deal with carrying larger items when running?

Key in one hand, cell phone in the other.

If you drive to your running location, just do not take anything else in the car; stick your license under the floor mat or something.

I live in the city, so keys pinned to my shorts, shoe wallet with $10-$20 and emergency info card, and water bottle with hand strap for longer runs. I used to run with spy belt when i carried my phone, but ditched both years ago.

Really, the phone is the main problem. It's the heaviest. They make small nylon cardholders with keyrings attached, and they shouldn't be too difficult to find a way to attach those.

I have thought about using an old leather belt as a utility style belt. Since I think the midsection is the best place to carry things so they don't move around too much. They make cell phone cases that attach to the belt. Haven't tried this yet.

I leave my wallet at home, slide my ID under one of my floor mats and put my one car key in the key pocket of my running shorts. Have never taken a cell phone running, don't know why you would need a phone to go running. The guys I run with are all pretty serious runners and none of us take a cell phone with us. That's why I like running, you don't need a bunch of stuff to workout.

My cell phone doubles as a stopwatch, an mp3 player, and a camera; I sometimes see interesting things and take pics/video.

When doing sprints, I do not carry anything, it bothers me and I am afraid it would fly out of my hand.

I don't buy pants without pockets. Keys in one pocket, phone in the other. It's not rocket science.

I slip my key on my shoelace and tie my shoe. If I need to take my phone, I just carry it. But I hardly ever feel like I need to take it.

Many people (like me) do not trust things staying in the pocket when running. I cannot count how many house keys I have came across on my runs over the last three years (moved to Miami three years ago) on the popular running paths.

Plus I could not imagine running with my phone bouncing along in my pocket.

For me I only take the basics such as D.L. and a house key if I'm running from my apt. If I have gone somewhere then I will just take my car key and D.L. and then lock everything else inside. The reason I take a drivers license is in case something happens to me there is way to identify me. I realize that may sound creepy/morbid but when you live several states away from family, with no family nearby you gotta be prepared. I have tried running with a cellphone and it is a pain in the ass. Maybe I should try one of those armbands again cause I like my music.
