I've taken a more in-depth look at both Wendler and Rippetoe and both actually appeal to me. Each book really emphasizes strength and muscle gain which is what I want. However, are there any recommmendations out there for a cardio and/or weight (fat) loss ccompanion curriculum? I don't want my goal of losing my "doughy-ness" to get lost among all the talk of strength training.
I suggest CrossFit or CrossFit style workouts. HIIT is also awesome.
As far as losing fat, the thing that has worked best for me is running. Both sprinting and "long distance" running noticeably reduced fat within weeks for me (at age 26).
I'm not an avid runner, but little things I've picked up are: 1) run for time, not distance and 2) if you want to run faster, run more. When preparing for a 5k, I would run for 30 minutes, 3x a week. My pace improved each week and I slimmed down pretty quick.
I don't know which type you prefer but I'd include some type of running 3x per week (if possible), whether it be distance, sprint interval, uphill, etc...
