I cannot even seem to get up in the AM to go running or go to the gym because I come home from work and I am so damned tired. I try not to day nap but it's starting to get harder now that I am taking on a heavier work load.
Any advice on what can keep me going the whole day other than coffee?
I know it isn't too helpful to say it but you need to get more sleep (I need to as well, for what it's worth). I think even one hour extra will help you a lot. And yeah, good to check on sleep apnea, because sleep quality matters as much as time. Note that the sleep does not *have* to be in a contiguous block. You mention napping. If it works better for you to sleep 6 at night and 1 in the afternoon, by all means that's fine - so long as the afternoon nap doesn't disturb your nighttime sleeping. Many humans have a naturally somewhat biphasic sleep cycle, the "sleep only at night" thing is more societal than natural.
My next question is is there any possibility of you working out late morning or mid-day. E.g., work out on your lunch break, or take an hour during the work day and work an hour later? I've found late morning / mid-day works best for me by far. Right when I wake up I have no energy because I'm not a morning person. After work I'm just too drained and the siren song of the couch is too strong. But mid-morning is perfect - I'm fully awake, and I still have energy.
Much much better than it used to be but I will admit some of the day naps are caused by carbs.
I am going to try to control my carb and sugar intake and report back.
Oh no, you need your carbs, that's where you get your fuel from. You'll only make things worse if you take them out -- I don't know what you count as carbs, though. If they're cookies (junk fat!) that's not really carbs.
Definitely get your sleep.
Coffee really messes up your adrenals. So sleep, eat healthy and look into cutting out coffee if you still feel exhausted after that.
Get more sleep. I averaged about five hours a night on a good night due to the job I held most of my twenties, and I seriously regret it. So not worth the health ramifications that appeared over time.
