If that's the case, you also have to keep in mind all those Asian women pull the average weight down too. So that means although the average height of American born women are taller, so are they fatter. Vice Versa for men.

Well it's only going to get worse if schools continue to label children as overweight when we have teachers, school officials, and politicians who set these standards unable to meet the standard themselves.

This kid is fat (according to the City of New York) | New York Post

Measured average height, weight, and waist circumference for adults ages 20 years and over
  • Men:
    Height (inches): 69.3
    Weight (pounds): 195.5
    Waist circumference (inches): 39.7
  • Women:
    Height (inches): 63.8
    Weight (pounds): 166.2
    Waist circumference (inches): 37.5
I'm amazed at the waist sizes for both men and women.
195.5 lb is way too heavy for a non muscular guy unless you are 6'2" and above.

I am 6' & 178 without muscle, and think that I look fat. I tried weight training, but could not lift jack.

You shouldn't give up on weight training. Some people take longer to progress than others but the trick is to stick with it.

Being obese is unhealthy.

However, you seem to blame overweight women, and have a lot more hostility towards them that towards overweight men.

What's up with that?
What's up with that is the thread was about women. That is what's up with that.

Exactly. I have a pretty typical hourglass figure with a much tinier waist than the upper and lower halves of my body. At 5'4" and 140 and not muscular I wear a size medium in dresses, medium or 8 in shirts and an 8/10 in pants.

BMI is generally a good indicator and people should use it. If you are over / under take it into consideration.
The only exeception to this is very muscular men and women and unfortunately most people are not that.

You don't "try" weight training and then stop because you couldn't lift much. the whole point of weight training is to progress upward in weight, from wherever you start. It's the journey that matters, not the destination.
