First, I'm nearly 68 years old. I lived a pretty hard life when I was younger. Among other things I thought I was 10 feet tall and bullet-proof, but hard reality proved to me that I'm neither.
Second, my time at the gym should be considered more as rehabilitation than body-building.
I spend 10-15 minutes in Cardio just to get things waked up, warmed up, lubed up and working properly. Next, I spend 40 - 50 minutes in specific muscle- and strength-building activities, presently concentrating on my legs and core. When I add upper-body work, I can easily see this expanding to about 60 - 75 minutes.
At present I'm going twice per week. I expect this will soon increase to three times per week.
Remember, I'm not doing this to look handsome or dashing-and-daring. For the time being I'm doing this so I can walk fairly long distances without falling down...
[Look up the phrase 'old goat' in the dictionary. The picture above it is ME!]
I'm on the clock as soon as I get into my workouts, I rarely go over one hour. I hit it pretty hard then I'm done and out, no chitchat, no cell phone, and no watching the tv monitors.
I work with a personal trainer, and those sessions are 30 minutes. These include various exercises like various types of lifting, to exercise legs, core and arms.
Typically, I do cardio after the personal training session. Sometimes I do 35 minutes, but I've been doing 53 minutes when I have time.
So the total workout is anywhere from 1-1/2 hours.
I train with low volume and high intensity. I do a small amount of sets but they are far more involved and intense than the typical set. Because of this, it takes me a few minutes to rest between sets to be at 100% again by the next set.
My average active workout time is 00:48:10. I follow Adi around and do everything he does, then do 1 more set.
Seriously, I don't go to a gym anymore. My time with weight training is about 40 minutes max. I run and cycle a food amount too. Running is anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hrs. Cycling is minimum of an hr and can go to multiple hr rides. Average is maybe 2 hrs. per ride (about 40 miles).
If pressed fr time, I find I can get a very good workout in 25 minutes with a kettlebell. I also have a nice hill close to me that is adjust over 1/4 mile a an avg 9% grade. I can do hill sprints for a killer workout - 10 minute warmup, 15 minute sprints, 5 minute cool down. Great workout and very efficient.

Dude, the reason I use a stopwatch is because I really don't have too much time in between to work out between classes. Also the gym clock is ancient and retarded. One day its 10 minutes slow, and the other day its 10 minutes fast. FYI, I am not the only one who does this, many other people do the same. Hiking is possible in the near future as well, since warmer weather is approaching. I am tempted to try hill sprints, sounds fun. Thanks for some hints on your routine.
I get in and out within 60 minutes. I will not allow myself to spend over 1 hour in the gym. I get in and get out. When I'm in the gym you can tell, I'm on a mission.
1(hour) and done.
1 1/2 -3 hours.
