I've run marathons, am normal range BMI, and play rec basketball competitively. Yet, when it comes to climbing up a set of stairs I seem to miss the pattern!

I end up tripping on a stair. Or I have to walk slowly, keep my eyes down, and fully concentrate on every step. But I still end up missing a stair sometimes! This happens only when I climb one stair at a time. When I climb two stairs in one step, I can move quickly/rhythmically up the entire stair case with no problems.

I think being tall with long legs might have something to do with it. The stairs are small and force me to walk at an unnatural step length. Anyone else experience this kind of difficulty climbing stairs sometimes?

Everyone trips every now and then. Don't worry too much about it and just keep on running those stairs. Its also more of a vision thing than an athletic thing that causes a lot of the tripping.

Me too! I'm very fit and athletic. I compete in ballroom dance. I eat right and exercise every single day - regardless of whether it's a holiday or some other "special" day. Yet, when it comes to stairs ... I too have to look down - which is the antithesis of what a ballroom dancer is all about - not looking at the floor!!! Not only do I look down when taking the stairs (which I do often in lieu of taking the elevator or escalator), I also kind of step on them sideways, as if I have HUGE feet (they're only a ladies shoe size 7!). I would never make it as a beauty pageant contestant - all that looking forward and up and smiling at people!!!
