I remember reading about how she grew up in her quaint Russian village, using running as a means of transportation.
The Rise of Liliya Shobukhova | World Marathon Majors

I watched her in a marathon or two, transfixed. Now it comes out that she was a drug cheat.
Liliya Shobukhova Gets Two-Year Doping Ban | Runner's World & Running Times

I asked a local marathon champ, Uli Steidel, and his track coach wife Trish what they thought of the amazing marathon performances of 2013. Patrick Makau of Kenya ran 2:03:38, since lowered to 2:03:23 by Wilson Kipsang, also of Kenya. They both responded with their explanation: drugs. I expect this in baseball, football, and pro-wrestling, but now it has infected marathon running too.

You mean she cheated? People don't cheat nor do they lie.

She ran 26 miles. I love it when people sitting on their couch at home call that "cheating."

If everyone in the marathon did not have the the option to have the same advantage then its cheating.

Might as well say Michael Pineda wasnt cheating either by using pine tar when pitching in Major league baseball because he is already a star athlete.

I dont think there is anything wrong with using performance drugs as long as its made a rule that anyone can use it. As long as the rules state that you can not use them, then its cheating.

Don't forget to add bicycle racing to your list of sports affected by performance enhancing drugs.

I remember watching her win the London marathon and being amazed by her closing speed over the last few kilometers, even though she looked in rough shape and was grimacing with the effort she was flying. Tough as nails.....I remember reading somewhere her coach sometimes had her push his car at the end of a workout.

Elimination of Shobukova's time means Paula Radcliffe has the three fastest and sixth fastest marathon times ever.

Blood abnormalities seems to point to inhalation of xenon gas which boosts epo: since the epo is produced by the body and not synthetically you cannot trace it except through biological passport testing. Dick Pound has been outspoken recently (actually he is always outspoken!) in his criticism of xenon gas cheating, so I assume WADA and the various Olympic Committees will be paying attention before Brazil.

Banned for abnormal hematological curves? That isn't the same as drug intake. It's a maybe.

But hey, I would just let professional athletes take PED's if they wish....most of them do anyways.
