My girlfriend gave me her "old" Polar HRM in 2011, and the the battery conked out a month ago. I went to a jeweler and had a new one (Lithium) put in. The display went blank within two weeks after I left it in my car (hot AZ temps) overnight. Jeweler put a new battery in again, and I used it twice before the display went blank again. Is it possible the HRM has an electrical short of some type? Is it two bad batteries? If I need a new HRM, which one might you recommend?
I have the Polar FT4, but it's a basic, simple, inexpensive heart rate monitor. You input your info (gender/height/weight) and it tells you the time (of course, it's a watch), your heart rate zone and calories burned and it tracks them. You would have to buy a separate monitor (not watch) if you want bluetooth capabilities if you want to track the info on the polar app.
Even though I recently purchased it, I realized I should have gone for a watch that can multitask since I would love a watch to track my long distance runs. So I'm now looking into a Garmin.
It sounds like there's something wrong with the watch itself. I would just buy a new one unless there's a warranty of some sort.
Your other option is to mail it back to Polar and have them fix it. Even if it was still under warranty, I'm pretty sure the warranty is voided if someone other than Polar replaces the battery.
Mine is an RS300X - pretty basic, and likely five years old (if not more). It has served it's purpose, I guess.
I have a nice watch and will look around and see what I can find for mid-level HRM. Not yet sure what features I may want/need that my now-defunct HRM has, but I'm sure a Polar or Garmin would fit my needs nicely.
