I finally got my TSH to the optimum range and I lost 2 pounds without trying. And it was over the Thanksgiving holiday when I ate more then usual. It's pretty cool and very motivating because now when I exercise I will expect to lose rather then gain like I was before. Sometimes it really is the thyroid that makes it hard for people to maintain or lose weight.

I have been taking it for several years now, and I think there has been 2 or 3 days where I honestly couldn't remember if I took it, so I didn't.

Where'd you get your medical degree? Do you really think all people are just like you? I noticed that I'd forgotten to take my medication within hours when I was on the lower dose. There is a reason that 25% of people on thyroid medication cannot take the generic. I'm one of them. I have to stay on Synthroid and I have to take it the same time every day. I'm very sensitive to dosing changes.

I ended up having my doctor increase my dose but now I'm hyperthyroid (but losing weight ). NOW it takes longer for me to realize I missed a dose but I'm not relying on my body to make T4 at all with a TSH of 0.24. Before I was. Unfortunately, there is no dose between the two doses. My doctor is ok with me being this low now that the range has been lowered to 0.35 but I am having symptoms of hyperthyroidism so I can't stay on this dose indefinitely. It is VERY NICE having energy though and I love seeing the numbers do down when I step on the scale. I'm on a 1500 calorie a day diet and losing about a pound a week. I have the energy to exercise every day now which I'm sure is helping. What's really interesting is now that I don't feel tired all the time it's easier to stick to a diet. Before my body kept saying I NEED FUEL. You'd think after all these years that my body would figure out that eating does NOT increase my metabolism. Neither does exercise but at least it doesn't make me tired now. I can exercise and not feel like sleeping for 3 hours afterwards. I just have to deal with intolerance to heat, diarrhea, my eyes hurting and not being able to sleep but hey, I'm losing weight and that's what really matters not my health.

Congratulations. I'm still not at optimum. I'm too low now but I'm losing about a pound a week with diet and exercise which is a positive change. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about being too low. Maybe I'll just learn to live with the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I'm certainly saving on heat this winter. I like the house about 60 degrees. That COULD be a problem next summer though.

I just found out my hypothyroidism is likely hashimotos. I see all of these people are easily regulated with synthroid. This is not the case for me. 5ish years after being diagnosed, i have never felt reaonably normal for more than 6 months. I still have symptoms. At the end of the really good period my energy level did a 180 and i gained 20 pounds in a few weeks with no lifestyle changes. The most annoying is a lack of energy that makes it difficult to muster up enough to exercise which helps to solve my insomnia. Leaving me with a neverending cycle of low sleep, low energy and brain fog.

There are many many people who have trouble feeling normal, as hypothyroidism is both under diagnosed and multi-faceted. We all have different chemistry and do not react the same to medications. I am working with an endocrinologist to get on track now as my primary care physician wasn't getting it right. I find for me gaining weight can happen at the drop of a hat, and losing takes 5-10x longer than it took to gain even a few pounds.

Yes, it is really bad when you are overweight and you lie to yourself.

I think a lot of very heavy people, and many normal weight people who exercise excessively, are addicted to food, mainly a LOT of bad food. But they do not want to end the love affair they have with the amount of food they eat, also the kind of foods they eat.

Hey, you are fricken eating too much and it is making you fat. And I am not pointing a finger...just making a broad and generalized observation. Hey, I've been there and done that......food is YUMMY and LOTS of junky food is REALLY yummy!!!!!!!!

Consider what type of people you're dealing with. I'm not talking about people that are 20,30, 40 lbs over-weight. I'm talking about these fat slobs going 400+. To get to that state in first place you have to have zero self respect, zero self control and zero discipline. So its only natural these people are going to look for an excuse as why to they are in the shape they're in instead of looking at themselves.
I have 2 ex-girlfriends with thyroid issues, they took their meds neither one was fat at all

The bottom line is that Americans, and many other people around the world, are considerably fatter than they were in 1950. 33% of America didn't all of a sudden develop thyroid problems within the last few decades.

The media is desperately trying to make obese acceptable. Just look at the TV commercials for so many things, everyone has a belly hanging over, especially the women. The number of sheet wrapped women (to hide the obvious over weight) is nothing less than astounding.

That isn't to say the same isn't being done with male reps.

Then there are all the drug ads for this and that. Notice that it is mostly over weight people in those ads? Maybe if they lost weight and controlled what they eat they wouldn't have such problems to start.

The real obvious thing is the commercials for cialis or viagra. Notice the women in those commercials aren't belly hangers? Oh no, couldn't sell those drugs by having belly hangers in there.

All this acceptance of over weight as ok started with women though, not men. Men weren't running around complaining that they felt so awful because others were making comments or treating them differently.

Mention that a woman needs to lose weight and you might as well run off to Syria because it is war on.
