I'm a woman and i can't do a single pushup. Either half of my female friends can't.
So i'm wondering is it normal for women or are we just too out of shape?
Ladies: how about you? How many pushups can you do?
I have been working out and weight training for well over a year and am JUST NOW getting to where I can do a few real military pushups. Women are weak in their upper bodies, we just don't have enough muscle. It takes a lot of strength training to be able to do it, and of course, body weight plays a part in it.
I do think pushups and other body weight exercises are the best for overall fitness. Despite the fact that I have incredible muscle definition in shoulders and biceps/triceps from weight training I am still relatively weak when it comes to those type exercises.
I can do 3 sets of 10 with a 90 degree bend in the elbow. I can't/don't do "chest to the floor" because it's too hard and the range of motion hurts my shoulder joint. I'm 52 and it took me several years of weight training to be able to do that.
When I was timed, I got 45 in a minute the last time.
I don't think I could do them that fast now (wrist and shoulder problems), but I have always been good at push-ups. Since I was a kid.
I want to know how many women here can do a pullup. My gf has been lifting for less than 2 years, and she has worked her way up to 3, which is amazing. Very few women can even do 1. For pushups, I'd bet she can bust out 10-15 no problem.
I can do 10, or possibly 1-2 more if really motivated. I am 45 and a mother of three, but I was a gymnast and gymnastics coach for many years and still try to stay in shape.
Even when I was at my peak in my early 20s, I couldn't have done 45 pushups. Maybe 25 at the most.
I can't do pullups at all any more. It's pathetic. I used to do three easily, four or five on rare occasions.
I can't do a single pullup. For a while I was working toward that goal but I guess I've given up. I'm tall and have very long arms and it just feels impossible for me. I know it's not really impossible, but I just don't want to put in the work.
I am physically active since I was a little child.
Work out at the gym on a regular basis, since many years. I am toned and fit.
However, I cannot do one single push up or pull up.
I do the girly ones and even they are tough for me. For the pull ups I use the machine and have to add 75 lbs to help me.
I have been told it's because I am tall and my limps are long. Hmmm. hmm. still sucks.
I have talked to trainers and they think I am overreacting when I hang on the bar and it seems like I am not doing anything but hang there. But in reality, I am doing my best, you just can't see it . ..hahahaha.

I remember at the gym last year I saw a girl around 5'10, long arms, but bone thin, bust out like 10 or 12 pullups! My gf and I just stood there in amazement gawking at her lol.
The key is using the machine that have assisted pullups and working your way up for there, that and of course keeping your weight down. I have a video of myself doing 20 wide grip pullups at 5'10 and 215lbs. I probably could have done 25, but I did a set of 15 beforehand.
