Just started the P90X3. Any thoughts from anyone who has done it before?
We chose this one because the 30ish minute workouts appeal to us as we both work 40+ hours a week (and she has school) and it seems like a good way to gain a little bit of muscle and lose a little bit of weight and just get into better shape.
I want to mix the Ab Ripper X3, and was thinking of doing it on the YOGA days and the MMX/CMX days (so twice a week). Any thoughts on when the best time to mix it in would be? We would like to do it 2-3 times a week and preferably on the "easier" days.
I don't have p90x3, but I do have p90x and I liked the program. I use some of the videos now in my rotation but I don't do the whole program anymore.
The 30 minutes would DEFINITELY appeal to me though. My time is pretty limited to 45 minutes or so most mornings. I just cannot get up any earlier than I already do.
Do you like the 30 minute videos? Do you feel like you get a good workout from them so far?
I've only done two so far, my shoulders feel a bit sore, and my legs feel a bit sore and the workouts definitely get me sweating. I used to go to the gym everyday, but have stopped for the past 4 or so months. I'm skinny, but definitely a bit out of shape and can keep up for the most part. If you are very fit, I'm not sure if these will cut it.
One difference that I heard between this and the original is that there is less "downtime". They get right into the exercise, and he kind of explains as he's going how to properly do it. (Where as before I think he went a bit slower at first to show you how to do it.) Obviously this is to save time.
I like the 30 minute videos, though (I feel an hour would turn me away.)
The Ab Ripper is separate though, not included with the main discs. It's not part of the workout regiment either, but I plan on adding it at the end of a couple workouts (I believe it is only 15 minutes).
The P90X series isn't really about gaining muscle per se. It's more about leaning out the body while keeping up on the endurance, and if you keep at it you will feel and look better. I have done the complete programs: P90X, Les Mills Combat, Les Mills Pump, Body Beast, RevAbs. I've also done some routines from P90X2 and Slim in 6. P90X3 is a great time saver, cutting the almost 1 hour down to 1/2. As previously stated, diet is 80% of the equation though. To really see a decent change in your body, you need to focus on the diet. I never did any of the diets per the manuals in any of the programs - I only read them as guides to my overall approach. Also don't discount stretching - just ask my Achilles.
I've done the Insanity workout, twice. Went from 240 to 189 so far.
Losing weight and body composition is at least 75% diet
