Idk how people work out upon waking up. Then again I do it very late at night and only the tiniest % of people do that. Maybe I'm the weirdo lol
I'm in the same camp, basically come home from work, get a quick workout meal in, let it digest then hit it. I prefer working out before bed because it gives my body the rest it needs to recover (I get a post meal in there of course).

For me it sets the tone for the rest of the day. I love it. TBH, I dont workout "upon waking up". I'll have a cup of black coffee first, THEN I'll do my cardio. So really, its 20 minutes or so after I wake up.
I have the same routine OP. I roll out of bed, get me a 1/2 cup of oatmeal and cut a banana into it (around 250 kcal) hit the gym (all the way to my garage,) get a shower and a big proteiney breakfast and I am ready to go for the day!
Depends on how quickly you start the workout after eating. Foods like Oatmeal will take long time to digest. If you start your work out immediately and it's a 40 min session, that oatmeal will have hardly kicked in. I would keep it lite and simple. Coffee and a banana is always a good choice.
just coffee, I eat breakfast post-workout. it usually consists of oatmeal, eggs, and maybe a protein shake for the extra protein
