Does anyone do leg presses on a regular basis? I'm going to add them to my routine, either after doing squats of deadlifts. I know that leg presses are no substitute for squats but I guess it can't hurt to start doing them. I tried some the other day and it seems like an auxiliary exercise with some benfits.
Don't waste your time. The leg press is still taxing, but 100% inferior to Squats.

You aren't strong unless you can lift heavy free weights. Machines just don't count.
What a stupid statement. Go pick things up and put them down.
He does have a point though. People who primarily do leg presses would have an extremely hard time doing heavy squats. On the other hand, people who do heavy squats have an easy time on the leg press. I was doing reps at 820 lbs on the leg press today despite the fact that I've only done them a couple of times now.

I agree, but not everybody (me included) can do squats heavy enough to be a challenge without hurting myself. I'm 60 years old and my core muscles aren't that strong, although my legs are. Someone might say to strengthen the core but there have to be safer ways to do that than heavy squats.

Why is it a choice between doing squats heavy enough to hurt you or not doing squats?
I've had to back off the weight drastically in order to do squats because of a torn meniscus. I have trouble bending my right knee, so I've decided to drop the weight and focus on going as low as I can. BTW, I am also 60.

Because there are only so many hours in a day… I'd rather do leg presses.
