The overly eager cashier at GNC will probably tell you that MuscleFreak Alpha capsules are the best thing for you after a visit to the gym, but a new study suggests a Big Mac might be just as good. Researchers found that feeding an athlete fast food over supplements as an exercise recovery meal made no difference in their later performance, or the stability of their stomach.
Except this study was so limited as to be pretty much useless. It was based on a one-time postworkout application. You can pretty much put anything in your body after workout to try and replenish nutrients, but that doesn't tell you about what the long-term implications would be.
You're over-generalizing the conclusion. The specific conclusion of this study was that there was no difference in follow-up performance a few hours later or in stomach stability. That doesn't imply that fast food and vitamins are equally healthy.
