The market is saturated with good walking shoes. I suggest, you go to your local runners world (or something equivalent) have them set you up with a pair of good walking shoes.
Nike isn't the best, narrow toe box on most of their styles. I like New Balance, Saucony & Asics for the more inexpensive brands, and for the higher end, worth their money I like Brooks & Newton. Yes, I've owned & worn all these, I walk 4-8mi/day, work out 2-3hr/day (besides the walks) and so far my fave is Brooks.
I'm female, but I second New Balance. I wear their women's shoes.
I also agree with the suggestion to go to a store that sells running shoes and chat with the clerks about your needs.
I haven't seen decent shoes for prolonged walking for under $60 at this point. I continue to look at the outlet mall, but some of the cheaper shoes have construction problems that would give me blisters. Your experience may vary.
I walk on average about two miles per day on a track, plus another mile (or so) on concrete floors. I know because I'm now wearing a pedometer.
If you are going to be walking on concrete all day I highly recommend Spira......shoes with springs in the soles.
I have foot and back problems and walked on concrete all day before I retired, these shoes were a blessing, no other shoe I ever tried came close to providing the same level of comfort.
They cost more than $100 but will last much longer than other shoes as the springs will not break down like other cushioning material.
Here is a link......watch the video and do a little research for more information and styles.
The best shoe is the one that is best for you . . .your feet, your walking style, etc. No one can tell you that one brand is better for you than another, they can only recommend a brand that works best for them.
Unfortunately, even if a shoe feels good while in the store, it has to be worn several times before you can know for sure. However, trying to return shoes that have been worn outside is usually not acceptable. If you can wear the shoes only indoors for a few days that would be preferred, and not specifically on carpet.
I have tried New Balance and Nike, neither worked for me. SAS brand is the best for me; but that's for me, and not necessarily the best for you. http://www.sasshoes.com/
