i also was told to wear these now due to a foot fracture i sustained a few months ago from running...if your ortho makes you full custom inserts that fit your entire shoe then you don't need the factory insert that comes with the shoe ...if you leave it in it may make your foot feel to confined and you might get more pain. But they do sell shorter inserts that don't fit the whole shoe like for the arch or ball of foot those you can wear with the factory inserts for extra cushioning....i have found that some inserts are very uncomfortable....im still on the fence about whether I want to keep wearing them.....

I like the vibram Fivefingers shoes, they are functional while running.
