As my knee is still giving me problems, I cannot use any cardio machines like elliptical, bike, treadmill. I can't fully flex my knee and can't do any sort of impact exercises. I can only do slow walking.
I came across an arm bike machine at a local 24 hour fitness, and decided to give it a try. It looks odd, but I tried a few intervals on it and seems to give me a decent workout in the upper body area. I'll use this for now as I try to figure out what is wrong with my knee (going to doctor tomorrow to discuss my MRI results)
It's ok, but you don't get anything NEAR where you get running.
For knee issues, if the option is available to you, there are foam belts you can wear to keep you afloat in the pool while remaining vertical. That way you can still go through the running motion without the impact. They're reasonably inexpensive; you just need access to a pool. But the cardio benefit you'll get from it will more closely resemble running, compared to a hand bike.
