I'm thinking of getting one of her videos for my boyfriend especially to use this winter but I'll be joining in for motivation.

I've heard good things about them - but is it basically walking in place along with using exercise bands, kicks, etc.? Do you just do it in place in front of your tv? I admit I'm a little worried about the two of us wearing down the carpet but maybe we can do it in the tiled kitchen?!

What do you all say? Any of them especially good? Any that might be better for a guy?

Many years ago I had a couple of those. They get boring REALLY fast.

They're boring and Leslie Sansone gets annoying very quickly, BUT, exercise is exercise and the videos are a good place to start. I have no idea whether you'll wear out the carpet or not.

You walk around in a 3 or 4 foot area, so not exactly walking in place. You go up and back and side to side, so if you move around enough, the carpet should be fine. I would recommend staying on the carpet because that is going to be a lot easier on your knees and joints than walking on a hard tiled floor.

They aren't the most exciting thing in the world to do but they do get you moving. I think they are a good way to ease into exercise if you are talking about someone in poor shape who basically doesn't exercise at all. There are Leslie Sansone workouts that are longer and more intense, but by the time you can do those, you probably will want to mix things up a bit more with a variety of different workouts. I know On Demand on cable used to offer a variety of free exercise videos, not sure if they still do. And many public libraries have DVDs you can borrow. I think that using a variety helps keep things from getting boring.

I have used Leslie Sansone's walking tapes and DVD's for years. They can get boring, but they work if you use them. I have quite a few and mix them up so that I am always doing something different. What you might find annoying is constantly listening to Leslie, but you can view the DVD's without audio, which is what I do while I am watching tv.

My suggestion is to look for them on sale and get a few. I have seen them at the grocery as well as Costco and BJ's. She has them from one mile to five miles and just mix them up. She has a new set that you can only get from her site and I do plan to pick it up but probably when it gets to Amazon.

Go to Amazon and look for reviews. That can help you to decide which ones to start with.

Couple of things:

1. Her videos are OLD. So old that they can all be seen in their entirety for FREE on YouTube, so it would be a total waste of even $3.99 to spend on those things.

2. Unless your boyfriend is as old or older than Tom Coughlin (70 years) and physically disabled to where he cant get out, then there are a million other and better options for you and him.

3. Her workouts even the walking ones, are very dance like and most men (especially older ones) will see it as a bit flamboyant and not manly enough.

For better recommendation, what are your starting points? Age? Any injuries/ailments?

Well, my boyfriend is in his mid-40's but having back and knee pain due to being about 50 pounds overweight. Also, he has NEVER worked out before...and he works from home and is "on call" at odd times so can't stray too far in case an issue arises. That's why I was looking for something that can actually be done, "at home".

Wow. I think Leslie's videos are great and I know lots of people (men AND women) who have gotten fit after they've started using them. Unless it says it's got dance moves, it's her 4 basic steps plus a few other moves. Nothing too complicated for this 50-something woman. She's got a bunch of new ones. Some have hit music ("Walk to the Hits"). They're all on Amazon. You can see some clips here: https://www.youtube.com/user/AnchorBayFitness/videos
