This is trail running on a mountain so not flat ground. I normally sprint 50% and jog/walk the other 50%.
I've been doing this the past 5 years and haven't lost a single pound. Actually gained a few.
So, you SPRINT 1.5-2 hours a day, on mountain trails, plus you go another 1.5-2 hours at a jogging pace, and this accounts for 7-10 miles a day? You do this seven days a week for five years, and haven't lost anything?
If you are working out 3-4 hours a day running up the side of a mountain without losing weight, I might recommend a full time job. It comes with the added benefit of a well-defined lunch break to keep you from eating all day long.

As an ultra-marathon trail runner myself, and someone that logs in over 3500 miles a year for the past 6 years, I'm highly skeptical to believe a word you say, Lol.
Unless, you're eating a good amount of ultra healthy foods (absolutely no junk whatsoever) its nearly impossible to have the energy to run everyday 7-10 miles...up a mountain on pizza and beer Lol.
It is possible to gain weight doing what you're doing, if you have a healthy calorie surplus at the end of each day. But I highly doubt, you're an elite runner/athlete- given your family is encouraging you to join a gym.
The math doesn't work. Regardless, if you are getting exercise & wish lose weight you will obviously need reduce calories. And you should also visit your doctor.
Only YOU can make that decision!
IMO, if being in a gym turns you off, your membership will be a waste of money. When you do go, you won't be motivated to get a good workout.
But then, it is likely you won't go anyway.
Keep in mind that you can not lose weight, no matter how you exercise, if your caloric intake exceeds the calories you burn.
also keep in mind that muscle is heavier than fat. You may well be losing fat with your running, but building muscle.
Keep up with the exercise YOU enjoy, and that YOU will actually DO!
Who cares if you drop 5-7 pounds of water weight? You should drink it all back and not dehydrate yourself. You need to fix your diet. Period.
Don't create a perfect diet. Just change one thing. Drop soda. Or heck, reduce your soda intake by 50% for now. Once you get used to it, make another small change. The perfect plan is the enemy of a good plan.
