They are saying that my way isn't working so I need to try their way which is to join a gym. But working out next to bunch of fat sweaty strangers just doesn't appeal to me. I would only use the pool anyways since I used to swim competitively and was in great shape then but still not worth $39/month.
Currently I am trail running at a nearby mountain. I typically run 3-4 hours a day and I drop 5-7 pounds. But I gain it all back and more by the end of the day since my diet consists of eating everything. So the only way I would probably lose weight is to cut back on the calories which is difficult for me.
So do you think I should do what they say and get a gym membership or just keep doing what I am doing and focus on diet instead? Btw, they are willing to pay for my membership but I still think it's waste of money.

A few things - first and foremost no one can force you to go to a gym. Your family may pay for it but there is no way they can 'make' you go.
I am curious as to how old you are and what you currently weigh. And I am also very curious as to why you would run for 3 to 4 hours a day unless you are a distance runner or training for a marathon or more. What is the actual distance you are traveling and are you running the whole time?
If you are running the whole time that would mean you are in really good shape and you would have to be eating an amazing amount of food in order to gain weight. One has to wonder if you are indeed putting that much into exercising why you wouldn't take better care of your diet.
And lastly if your family is aware of your ability to run for 3 - 4 hours a day what do they think a gym will accomplish if you are just going to eat yourself into oblivion?

What a horrible thing to say. If that's your attitude, then stay out of the gym. The people at the gym are trying to improve themselves and don't need you judging them.
Your problem isn't exercise; it's your food intake and your understanding of how weight loss works. Start there.
Eat less and you will lose weight. It does not matter if you join the gym or not. As others have pointed out, your issue is eating more calories than you burn. I suggest SLOWLY eating less over time. Do not go "cold turkey", that will only lead to failure. A good idea may be to track what you eat, so then you have an idea of how many calories you are consuming.
Assuming you mean 3-4 miles and not hours. When you said per day did you mean every day? Or 1 or 2 days per week?
If you are overweight and running as much as you say you are then it's your diet that needs fixing. Read thru the above advice. Find some sites on improving your diet. Good luck.
This is trail running on a mountain so not flat ground. I normally sprint 50% and jog/walk the other 50%.
I've been doing this the past 5 years and haven't lost a single pound. Actually gained a few.
