I'm pretty lean (~16% bfp) and in very good shape. Controlling for age, I'd guess I'm in the top 10-15% of men with regards to overall health, fitness and strength. We are all different so I believe you when you say even at your height 170 is too fat for you. But recognize this is not universal. With that in mind, bemoaning the state of American fitness based simply off of height and weight is an exercise in futility.

You're a man and I'd be a woman. At 170, I am big. At 195, I could be a serious bouncer if I could get my ass up to the bar. I doubt very seriously if you look as big as I do at 170 or 175.

Well, body composition matters, too. I'm 5'11" and weigh a little over 200 lbs. I'm a pretty muscular man with low bf(10-12%). No one would look at me and call me fat. Some people are surprised that I weigh as much as I do.

Haha! Well I guess that explains the differences between where you and I view our appropriate weight!

I look at people who are my height and weigh as much as I do and some of them look obese. When I tell people how much I weigh they are shocked. I wear a size 12 jean that I can pull on and off without unzipping them and unbuttoning them. I have a lot of muscle mass, but still too much belly fat.

John my husband thought I weighed about 135. Ah no, but I'm still going to do that thing to him tonight for saying so

I am about 5'9 and 128 lbs. I am at the low end of normal, I should not go lower than that.

Ooh, honestly? It's too much IMO. I was 5'5 and 165lbs at 9 months pregnant, and it was pretty wobbly. I would think at that point, you need to worry more about your health.

70% of US adults are overweight/ obese. As such, we are substantially more vulnerable to Heart Disease, High BP, Stroke, Diabetes and some Cancers. This failure of take responsibility for ourselves is a major contributer to the healthcare costs in the US.

They also have a much cleaner food supply. In other words, they don't have a bunch of added chemicals, sugar, and fat added to their food for no reason other than to make them addictive.

Why are we specifically focusing on overweight women? How about overweight Americans?
