Why do some people attempt these ridiculous amounts of weights and think they can actually lift it?

There are people out there that can squat that amount of weight but not this guy. He wasn't even close.

Ego. And Hubris. And a desire to get a bazillion YouTube hits.

What a dumbass. He didn't even use collars. Although I don't think he's CLOSE to squatting that much weight, he didn't really get the chance!

I'm wondering why he went ahead and posted this EPIC FAIL to YouTube anyway.

Dumbass.

There are definitely people out there that can do this much weight. Nothing wrong with trying to maxing out and even failing at it (that's what the rack is designed to do--catch the bar if you can't get it). This idiot though didn't even secure the plates.

Always have a proper spotter:

I am no gym expert, but he is doing this correctly right?

That guy looks nowhere near healthy enough to be tryin to lift that!

P.S. I did that exercise for the first time on Saturday morning (when I met with a trainer for a free session), with 35 lbs., and did 30 squats. Ouch, I am so sore right now, I can't even lift my leg up to the sidewalk without saying ouch lol.

Your trainer really should have known better.

I know, right? I figure maybe she figured I could handle it because I told her I've been working on the weight machines. I mean really, I did handle it and I do think this is normal soreness. But yeah, I started thinking what if I got injured, did I sign something saying I would not sue. Seems risky to have these random trainers who probably aren't all that much more knowledgeable than the average Joe having people lift such heavy weights when they are novices like me.

The plates took up the entire bar there was no way to secure them
