I have heard many horror stories from people regarding the third party billing almost all gyms use these days. Mostly regarding overcharging, double billing one month and the impossibility of getting these third party billers to stop charging you after you quit or move.
Have any of you had a problem and if so was it with a specific third party biller? I'm not sure if mentioning a company is allowed and if not I apologize in advance.
Is it better to use a credit card rather than a debit card from your checking account? I know with a credit card you can contest any charges that are in error.
Do not remember what third party biller it was, but a Retro Fitness gym I used a few years ago had that in place. When I cancelled the membership it took 3-4 phone calls to finally stop the charges and get reimbursed for the months after I officially cancelled. Not a huge PITA, but a PITA nevertheless. I would personally use a credit card for any bills payments of this type. If you cancel, ensure you have it in writing with a date and signed by local gym staff, manager, etc. so if you are getting billed in the future, you have something as proof.
