It really sucks. I'm trying to do better for myself and help prevent diabetes. I have a family history of diabetes. A brisk walk for 45 minutes leaves me exhausted. I avoid steep hills otherwise I feel fatigue. I've been trying to walk few times a week for the last few months. My strength has gained some but not much.
As a baby, I had some heart issues involving a murmur and surgery was done to repair it. Physical activity involving getting my heart rate up and strength training has always been tough for me. I'm considered slightly overweight by my family doctor and go get my heart checked yearly.
Sorry to hear that, I'd ask your Doc what he/she recommends. As hard as it is to eat right, that may be the most important factor for you, but you should definitely consult with your doc. Any advice here should be taken with a grain of salt. Wish you the best!

What do you mean by exhausted? I do HIIT sprinting (running uphills or long flights of stairs) a couple of times a week and I'm absolutely wrecked when I'm done. I just want to lay around after. I always say "I'm exhausted." That's kind of the point for me...to exhaust myself so my body will rise to the occasion and develop improvements to meet the demand I put upon it.
So I don't see what you're doing as any different than what I'm doing...the only difference is in the intensity level. If you're brisk walking and exhausted after 45 minutes...to me that sounds like a damn good workout! I'd be proud of myself for challenging myself like that.
If by exhaustion you mean something like chronic fatigue, where you can't function, then that's a different matter altogether, and I have no ideas/experience with how to deal with something like that.

Because you have a heart issue I suggest you ask your doctor to referral you to a personal trainer who certified in heart conditions to work with you!
45 minutes is a bit much, especially if you have heart problems. 20 min would be enough and maybe increase intensity a bit. Don't forget your diet, it's important. Good for you for trying!
I'm wrecked after cardio day, that's kinda the point, but my endurance keeps increasing, and I keep upping the exercise.

That's a good point--you should be tired after 45 minutes of brisk exercise. But maybe 45 minutes is too much for you right now. Try 30 minutes until it feels easier, then increase your time and try those hills.
