I'm trying to get into better shape. I exercise and eat right but I realize I should probably do other things to get my body moving. 24 Hour near me has 2 classes that I'm somewhat interested in. I know I shouldn't care about what other people think of me and that I should put my health first (I get it...), but in those classes are they geared more towards those already in shape who want to stay in shape or are there enough overweight people in them to not make me feel like I'm the heaviest one in there? I also hate when the instructor tends to stay near me since I'm a newb (I've had that experience at a few gyms before). It's awkward to me to have to tell an instructor that I want to be left alone.
Getting over being intimidated at the gym nothing new and just about everyone experiences it. The facts are however, no one cares. We are all there for the same reason, and more than a few people at the gym started out heavy and out of shape.
I do not like classes myself because I am terribly uncoordinated and classes (except for spin and yoga) make me feel like a complete loser because while everyone is going left I am going right.
My suggestion is try as many classes as you can and continue with the ones that seem like you might have fun in and do not bother with the rest. Instructors are just trying to help you, and while it seems intrusive, you may as well take advantage of their attention. Also consider working out on your own.
