Yes, heavy bones can hinder endurance. Simple physics. But you're probably nowhere near your potential.

Don't forget to count your heavy bones as a bad-*ss blessing in disguise. I'm one of you (heavy frame, bone mineral density impressed everybody who's measured it, guy who extracted bone marrow said he's never seen anything like it) and my endurance is also incredible. Because I train and take care of myself.

As for fast-twitch vs slow-twitch, there's no telling.

Thanks for all the responses.

P.S. I am by no means a huge guy at all, which is more of reason why I am so interested. But it's no biggie and after all, I am 39 so maybe I really need to take into consideration that had I been working out as I am now, with all this crossfit style when I was 19, i probably wouldn't be wondering today. I think I am making the mistake of trying to perform at 39 as if I were in my early 20s.

So you aren't fast, but you complete what you set out to do?

Say hello to the rest of us out here.

If only I can knock out a 25 minute 5K at age 39.

Any comments are welcome.

P.S- this is not about just "accepting who I am". It is more about understanding the dynamics and how the body works.

Thanks.
Before I finished my Army career, I usually was a 14-15:30 min runner for the 2 mile run and was always slightly "husky" but not overwt by Army standards. I just figured my times were because of the added weight.

I discovered Heart Rate Training after I left the Army and have increased my endurance (long runs 8-10 miles, never could do more than 4-5 back in my Army days. I really wished I know about heart rate training back while I was in the military). I would have enjoyed running like I do now. And I think my running scores would have probably been better.

...just as an aside, I'd rather have your skills/strength in times of being in combat than that of a thin, fast runner, that's for sure.
