Hi Fernweh,
All diets, pills, potions and even surgeries will work to lose weight. But... Only lifestyle change/ healthy diet and exercise will keep it off for life.
If you have a healthy diet and exercise you have no need for pills and potions to lose weight.
As a general rule is isn't logical to do anything to lose weight that you don't want to do for a lifetime.
There are all kinds of things a person can do to pretend they have lost weight, when all they have done is lost fluid and waste.
Sadly the upcoming "Treat and Reduce Obesity Act for 2017" in part proposes "weight loss" prescription drugs be covered. Great. I'd rather they legalize heroin.

The CAE (caffeine-aspirin-ephedrine), is supposedly an effective fat-burner and fairly safe if used with some common sense. Unfortunately, in the USA, it is pretty hard to get ephedrine, as a stand-alone product, without a prescription.
I think, any fat burning supplement sold over-the-counter is pure junk meant to take your money, and keep on taking it, month after month. And that goes for most supplements bought at the local health store.

There are also plenty (most really) that are nothing more than marketing gimmicks.
Ask your DOC
I would NOT ask that question here!
U do not know who is sitting in the chair, typing replies.
Might be a person who teach "Witch Craft"
Ohhhhhhhh! I get it you have the new TRUMP CARE.
that insurance might not cover your question.
Please ignore my reply, just having fun.
Please have a good night!
So much this ^^. Exercise forums in general are sketchy, but this one is especially filled with ridiculousness.
However, if you're interested OP....ECA stacks are supposed to be effective (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirine), but ephedrine is now illegal in the U.S. I've never tried it, but if you're interested maybe check it out and do some research.
Be careful of any and all thermogenics (fat burners). They are bad for your overall health when taken excessively. I used to pop Ripped Fuel like candy throughout my 20s and now I am suffering for it (kidney, stomach, liver and heart issues).
