Ordered Hemp powder instead of Whey-- but tho there is much info re Whey & benefits like, I think, better insulin levels, etc. -- yet I feel plant based is THE best way. Will reorder Buckwheat too & eventually drop Quinoa, Oats, Pasta & Rice, etc. (as they also spike more insulin). Everyone ought keep their insulin use low & reduce bld sugar by cutting grains from diet (Buckweat's a grass). Ok, just my latest try.
I am a 59-year-old female so not trying to body-build, but I do a pea protein shake with almond milk, berries, and cinnamon in the morning. I lost weight, and that has been part of what has worked for me. YMMV.
For actual food, I agree with Calvert about beans and rice. So easy to make a batch of them, too. Add vegetables, tomatoes, whatever, keep it in the fridge, and you've got easy plant-based meals handy.
Pea protein tastes like dirt. Litterally. It is extremely bad tasting, there is nothing you can do to hide it. I ended up just chugging it down. Went back to whey isolate with no flavorings, so still healthy but I could at least get it down.

There is really pretty simple; for gaining muscle, the animal based proteins (especially the milk proteins) are going to be far superior to plant based proteins. This is backed up by peer reviewed research and is simply indisputable at this point.
I can understand wanting to avoid meat due to dietary philosophy, but unless you have a food allergy issue, there is literally zero reason to use a plant based protein over whey/casein as your primary protein source.
I would only restrict myself to plant protein supplements for ethical reasons, like if I were vegan.
But I am not, so I would mix it up if I were consuming a lot protein powders.
In reality, I get most of my protein needs from whole foods. When I am on a regime that requires an increase of protein over what I get from my real food diet, I choose whey.
