Is it bad to exercise twice a day? The situation is that on Thursday's 9:00-10:30 I go to the gym with a friend, and I don't want to stop. At the same time I have a college fitness class tomorrow first day (Thursday) from 1:00pm-2:30pm. Its going to be a circuit training with weights, resistance exercises, and I heard from other students that is pretty tough.

Is it a good idea to do both? I'm not in the best shape of my life, I can run 2 miles in 31 minutes, 30 push ups in two minutes, not good. I wonder since my cardio is not that good, will it hurt me doing this double workout in a day.

Your run pace is very slow. How many sets of 30 push ups can you do per workout?

As you might be unfit, take it easy. Attend the classes to learn the correct techniques and forms.

Not sure what you decided to do, but if you're a 19 or 20-year-old, you can probably do those workouts back-to-back once a week without any problem. Try it once and see how you feel.

Depends how intense of a workout it is.

Sometimes I'll go to the gym (resistance training) or hiking earlier in the day, but then in the evening around dinner time, I'll do a walk/jog/vault of about 4-5 miles.

As long is you are not exercising to injury or to the point where you feel you need an extra recovery day, I think it is fine.

Need a lot more information to make this call. Your age? What type of exercises do you do with you friend (heavy lifting? light lifting? cardio only?).

I'm in decent shape and a 90 minute circuit class would probably be MORE than enough for me. I can't imagine doing my normal lifting/cardio routing in the morning and coming back for a 90 minute grueling class. It's a sure way to burn yourself out quickly.

When I was in the best shape of my life in early to mid 30's, I was working out twice a day 5-6 days a week.

Usually two cardio sessions, 4-5 mile run before work, run after work or go hiking. Sometimes I'd do weight training in lieu of one cardio sessions. Some crazy days I worked out three times a day.

Can no longer do that but what a great ride it was. If you're young go for it.

Your college class is presumably being taught by a professional with a degree -- likely a Master's or even a Ph.D. -- in exercise physiology or something like that. Why not ask your instructor? You'll probably get more out of the afternoon class if the instructor is aware of what you're doing in the morning. Or perhaps the instructor can suggest modifications to the morning routine that will prevent problems if you continue doing both.

Well keep in mind that i just started working again for the one million time. I done well a few times and I'm hoping to get back to that point. My age is 30, I take medicine which causes weight gain for a mental illness. Nothing I can do there, but my doctor said working out more and eating less, I should be able to see progress.

My type of exercises is beginner level. I do Chest, Arms, legs, back, and cardio on different days. I know I'm a beginner, I do 8 different exercises per body part. 4 sets of 12 reps.

I plan to workout light in the morning of my double day workout, followed by the circuit training mix with cardio. I don't want to lose this routine.

On a side note, we had the two minute timed push up test today, and I did 75 push ups in two minutes. That's all I got.

Pro body builders do splits daily, as they exercise basically 7 days a week and can't cram enough exercise into one session. You'll live.
