No worries, when you didn't even look up I simply took your dumbbells.
LOL.

I rarely text at the gym. I may be switching my podcast or music, or I may be looking up a new exercise in my exercise app......

And I never hoard equipment AND I am fine with people "jumping in."

Traditional Mp3 players are becoming a thing of the past, most everyone in the gym nowadays is hooked into their phone through wired earbuds or via wireless "earpods" like what Apple sells and listening to music that way while they workout. You might *think* they are texting but they could be scrolling through an app changing their music up, adjusting volume, etc.

YMMV.
I'm tired of people thinking they have the right to dictate what sort of exercise is appropriate and enjoyable for someone else. And thinking that what someone does in their own life is somehow any of their business.

I have RA. I don't have access to a pool, but if I did, I would never go because I hate to be wet.

I prefer the consistent workout that a treadmill gives me, and since where I live is either sweltering hot or frigid cold, walking outdoors is also not an option for most of the year.

I'd much prefer seeing people on their phones catching up with loved ones instead of someone judging my choosing to be on the phone. What you call interacting with their surroundings, I call being a Nosy Nellie.

Cellphones in gyms were worse prior to texting, when the rest of us were forced to listen to others' calls.
It isn't the device, but rather how it is utilized; and whether the user is courteous to others.
I used to be one of those sales people, but when the phone rang I would leave the fitness floor to take the call.

Now I leave mine in the locker, cuz' I'm there to workout.

I realize that heavy cell phone users are very defensive about their habits. Typical of addiction! No offense meant.

some old guy came up to me today while i was watching a video between sets. i know he is like our friend otter here that complains about other people's addictions to their phones. that is what so many old people like to do, complain about what other people do.

if he made some comment about me being on my phone somewhere else, im not going to just respond politely to him. i wont raise my voice or get aggressive but i will let him know that he shouldnt be worrying about my cell phone usage.

People can do what they like; I just sincerely find it sad. Everyone's entitled to his or her opinion. And there ARE alternatives to the "boring" exercise machine in a gym cardio workout; just putting that out there. And no, I'm not old.

your classification of it being "sad" is absolutely silly. im very happy looking at my cell phone between sets. it seems like what other people do is making you sad. maybe you need to focus on yourself and not others.
