Hi everybody! I would like to ask you guy about the connection between smoking and running. I have been smoking for a long time and quit with it 2 years ago.
These days I started to run and have such strange chest pain after a small run. I read Vapingdaily article about the connection between sport and smoking too. And wanted to ask you is it a normal thing after years of smoking or maybe I should visit a doctor?
There could very well be a connection or it could be something unrelated. My mother quit smoking in her early 40s and now at age 74 she has developed COPD, likely due to smoking. The health effects from that habit can linger forever in your body.
Any time you have chest pain when exercising that is a HUGE red flag to me. I would go see a cardiologist and get your heart examined.
I used to bartend back when smoking was allowed in bars. I was a non smoker, but I probably inhaled a good pack or two during my shifts. I used to trail run back then and it was rough. I would cough, but it would pass.
When I would go up to Lake Tahoe, about 6000 ft elevation and run I would actually cough up some nasty phlegm, and then be okay.
Once I stopped working there I never had the problem again.
