They have some pretty good deals once in a while and allow you to pick at a local store instead of waiting for a shipment to arrive. Strange thing is they seem to discourage in store pick vs. online ordering. They have a $10 off and free shipping offer n top of sale prices, but it says "online only". Wonder why they would discourage in store pickup? I guess the bean counters have a reason. Or maybe online only refers to the actual order placement? hmm, time to find out... un momento por favor.

In-store ordering has never been a profitable thing in retail. Some stores do it just to bring in customers, if they have that need. But a store that doesn't need help bringing in customers would have no reason to.

I basically don't go to brick and mortar stores for much of anything nowadays, especially with supplements which can be easily comparable online. I've found that Bodybuilding.com and Amazon typically have the best pricing and the fastest shipping.

If you go into these stores, they often try and upsell you on vitamins, fish oil, etc.......no thanks.

Roger that, but every once in a while you want something like yesterday so nice to have that option. I have a Vitamin Shoppe close by, but you're probably right, they're hoping that once you're there, you'll pick up additional impulse items. Like a kid in a candy store.

I used to shop at Vitamin Shoppe (for years) and no one EVER tried to upsell me on anything. They were always friendly and helpful. that said, these days I buy supplements online, occasionally from VS, but mostly from Swanson which offers great deals especially on their own brand.

I don't have a Vitamin Shoppe by me now but we used to get together at work and order online and then split the shipping costs. I've always been happy with them and they people that work in the actual stores seem pretty knowledgeable compared to some places.

One thing I do NOT like about them is the way they are always trying to get people to purchase monthly (or sometime less frequent) ongoing purchases.

It's basically V-S telling customers, "We don't like dealing with you. You are a nuisance. The less we see of you the better."

Well, I decided to give their online order/in-store pickup a try today and they failed. Ordered online and it stated I could pickup same day at local store, but wait for the all clear email before heading up there. 2 hours go by and nothing so I started a chat session with customer support to ask how long it typically takes. She tells me the order could take 24 hours to process. I said that was not conveyed during the order process, it clearly stated order today/pickup today so I asked her to cancel. She canceled and I got an email at the same time that my order was ready for pickup. She then said I could re-order or call the store. What a cluster.

I love them compared to GNC. Not too sure about the price difference but at Vitamin Shoppe I'm able to shop in peace. I like that the stores are bigger as well.

In fairness, I gave them yet another try and this time everything went well. Order ready for pickup email came back before they even opened. Stopped in on way to gym and it was ready to go. Very nice store (much bigger than I expected) with friendly/helpful employees.
