Im getting shooting pain in my left quad when doing this.
These are the compound movement am doing for legs so there goes my leg day. Should I lower the weight and try again next time?
I don't do heavy weights, but if I did, I'd lighten the load or rest for a week. Maybe there's an underlying tear? Maybe your knee joint? Hopefully someone will give you some guidance. No experience w/ quad muscle strains/injury.
Do these tears happen due to bad form ? I dont have pain normally just when i lunge or do split squats. I dont even have pain when i do bodyweight squats like it doesnt hurt much then
The best, most efficient exercises are those done with the origin of the muscle directly above the insertion. Any other configuration places extra strain on the muscles & joints. Movements are best done in tandem, not alternating sides. The reason lunges, behind-the-head presses and such are so hard is because they are awkward (involve compound movements) and our body mechanics are not intended to do things that way-- easy to injure involved tissues.
Thing is it heals, now am fine but the discomfort lasted a week which made me skip legs this week which sucks cuz i dont want chicken legs. At this pace il hit legs every 2 weeks. Thinking of dropping split squats and doing lunges only. Will prolly add rdls or single leg dead lifts

Seriously? If you skip a few weeks your muscles atrophy that quickly?
na na I mean I just started, and if I keep getting this discomfort, I mean Il skip many weeks then and that isnt good. How will I build decent legs if I keep skipping it.

A good rule of thumb is if an exercise always seems to give you problems it is probably not for you and you should find something else. There are plenty of ways to build legs.
As the punch line to that old dad joke goes, "if it hurts when you do that, don't do that." You can end up injuring yourself if you keep pushing, and that will definitely affect your workouts more than allowing yourself to heal and practicing good form.
