I have been doing it for a year now and like the results. I do the 16:8 ratio - fast for 16 hrs, eat within 8 hour window. That works for me. I've tried the 24hr fast cycle a couple of days a week. hard but doable. What is everyone else's experience and results?
16:8. Without any changes in diet or exercise, I find that my hunger is more manageable in the day and I do not snack as much anymore, so I don't gain weight but I don't shred tons of pounds.
When I eat cleaner and workout more consistently, I melt the pounds off without needing to be in the gym everyday or to work out for a long time. 16:8 is second nature now, I don't even have to think about it.
I pretty much do the same thing. I have dinner around 6-6:30 and nothing else until 10 or 11 the next morning. I was losing weight and was actually down to my target weight and then Covid happened and I started eating out of boredom. As soon as I get my vaccine I will be back to the gym and my intermittent fasting.
It works amazingly. But some people need to go longer than others.
I have been fasting since early 2020. I change it up. Sometimes doing 18:6, sometimes doing OMAD, sometimes eating normally for most of the week with a 48 hour fast at the end.
Currently I am doing Alternate Day fasting.. about 40 hours fasting at a time.
Since January 2021 I have lost 11 lbs. So that is 11 lbs in a month and 1/2.
Fasting also has a ton of health benefits. It will definitely be a part of my life going forward.
I find being at home helps a lot. At work my schedule is not my own and I can get derailed because my workplace believes I should be eating a breakfast (before work) lunch and dinner (after work).
Just a drive-by here - if you saw me, you'd know I'm in no position to comment on fasting..intermittent or other kinds..but..I have a question:
Why is this a thing? Following your definition, I have been Intermittent Fasting my entire adult life. As have pretty much, well, nearly everyone I know. No one considers it a fitness technique.
I do not eat breakfast. Maybe on weekends, but never during the week. Coffee, black, hope that's OK.
I eat lunch at noon. I eat dinner at dinner time, 5 or 6.
Then I go to bed til tomorrow.
I'm a bit worried that anyone thinks this is a weight loss or fitness technique. It's just quite common that folks don't eat breakfast. Ask around. Why don't I eat breakfast? Time is #1 reason.

I think an equal number set up a 3 meal and two snacks a day method because they thought it would help them lose weight.
I first IF eight years ago but stopped after a few months (got bored of it I think).
Started doing IF again about end of summer last year. I do the popular 16:8, 16 hours fast, 8 hours eating. In that 8 hour window usually average around 3 meals with some snacks. Don't count calories though I should, anyone serious about losing weight needs to do that.
Not sure if I lost weight but does seem to help me from gaining too much. It took some getting used to since I start eating at 11 am and then stop at around 6 or 7 pm. If you go to work you sometimes have to fight off hunger before 11. But you get used to it.
It's important to give you body and digestive systems a long break.
18:6 here. I've been doing it for 2 1/2 years now, mostly with success. When "stuff" happens (the husband's surgery, covid, winter), I tend to fall off the wagon. But not for too long, the worst was covid with a 10 pound gain from my goal weight , although I already had 5 extra pounds on me from winter. That was tough, but I've taken off 5 pounds, and am still working on the rest - fingers crossed!
Oh, and I mostly eat right and also I try to exercise, even if it's just some push ups.

I've tried many different fasting methods from every other day fasting, to 5:2, to eating windows, to one meal a day, etc.
I've found that what I eat impacts my weight loss more than when. For me, its all about carbs. I just cannot lose weight or maintain my weight if I eat too many carbs. As I get older, the fewer carbs I can eat.
