As Harrison Ford says; "The force is with you if you force yourself."
I had a TBI put me in a month long coma. Left me with numerous life changing issues so I force myself. I will not let this define my life, I will not play the victim. I force myself to do the difficult things to assist my recovery.
I do 5 squats. I can do that...I'm thinking, at least 5. And then I repeat that multiple times/day every time I remember to do it. 5 and again later 5 and so on. Or, as someone mentioned earlier, I rest, take a nap, go in the forest for a slow and calming walk. Or I do 15 min of Pilates and that's it.
There's a lot of different ways to motivate yourself to exercise (and many great ones have been shared here)
But here's an important distinction I've learned: Don't rely on motivation
Many people think, "I have to be motivated to exercise."
The thing is, there are plenty of days I am not motivated and I do it anyway. And some of the fittest people I know are the same way. They don't make being motivated a condition to getting a workout in. They just do it no matter how they feel.
There are days where it's a struggle and it's the last thing you want to do. But you do it anyway (and sometimes you make it a shorter workout if needed or you just go for a walk). When you get into this habit of consistently showing up you tend to find more motivation. And sometimes those 'low motivation' days end up being the best workouts even. Not always but I've had this happen dozens of times. Hope that helps.
I went to Walmart to return an extension cord after the gym. A guy asked me how much I bench. That was pretty motivating! I was at Cheesecake Factory yesterday and ordered a salad like an idiot lol
I'm 67 and have definitely not lost any muscle mass. I'm more muscular than ever as a result of lifting weights consistently for the past 28 years.
Baloney, you have old man jelly fat on you like we all do. No one maintains naturally or avoids old man jelly fat, so be real.
