Hi all,

is it better to get jogging shoe like hoka clifton 9 or should I try orthotic in-sole like Dr. Scholl's for cardio walking / running. so, this is for cardio, not just walking slowly for sightseeing. I want to avoid shin splint or joint pains down the line.

Thanks

Neither.

Go to a good specialty running store and get fit for shoes.

Brooks Ghost Max all the way bay-be! I’m on my second pair. Like little clouds wrapped around your feet.

You want a running shoe. The most ideal brand/variety is subject to personal preference.

I don't know about Hoka. They have a reputation for being heavily padded, so maybe that works great for you or maybe not.

Ideally you could try on a few different pairs, as mentioned above, although that's not an option where I live.

Like wizrap, I'm partial to Brooks shoes. Need a new pair so I will try their suggestion.

I would suggest you go with runnig shoes. They generay have more padding and will provide more support. This wil help greatly with joint pains.
I haven't tried the hoka clifton 9 specifically, but I've been meaning to get me some hokas, I heard they are great and pretty popular amongs runners.

Everyone I've ever known that had Hokas swears by them. I wear Vans so I can't say, although the Vans UltraRange line is very comfortable for walking.

It's been my experience that it's worn shoes that aggravate shin splints, so any new shoe that fits well should help. One of the reasons I wear Brooks most of the time is because their shoes help reduce my tendency to walk on the outsides of my feet (supination), which can aggravate shin splints.

The above recommendation to go to running shoe store is a good one. They'll assess your gait, speed, habits, needs, etc., and give you some options. It's a good way to learn, which you can apply to future purchases not necessarily at that store.

Maybe, maybe not. No one can answer that online.
What works for one person doesn't work for another.

New Balance walking shoes. If you are walking running shoes will not do.
